Olaitan, A Major Doubt for Brazil World Cup- Report

Michael Olaitan’s hopes of making Nigeria’s squad to the 20th Fifa World Cup in Brazil may have suffered a huge blow as reports from Greek have indicated the striker could be sidelined for “several months”.

The striker, who was running off the ball when he fell to the pitch unchallenged during last Sunday’s Athens Derby against Panathinaikos, will now spend at least a week in the hospital before discharge.

Initial diagnosis on the Nigeria youth international revealed he had collapsed due to a viral myocarditis caused by an infection.

A source at the Greek champions told MTNFootball.com: “Michael could be out for several months as more tests are being done on him to situate the cause of the incident that caused so much fear last weekend”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have reportedly sent through to Olympiacos a medical of the player done prior to the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
