Presidency Asks Sanusi To Respond To Charges

The presidency, Wednesday, asked suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to respond to charges levelled against him and stop whipping up sentiment by misinforming the public.

In a statement released by Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the presidency said it noted with disappointment, the unrelenting attempt by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to falsely portray his recent suspension from office as an attempt by the Presidency to bury his allegation that huge sums of money due to the Federation Account are unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

“The Presidency wishes to reaffirm that Mallam Sanusi’s suspension has absolutely nothing to do with his unproven and inconsistent claim that $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion is missing from the national treasury”, the statement said.

The international community seem to share Sanusi’s position on the reason for his suspension, as several foreign media reported on the day of his suspension that he might have been suspended over the missing $20 billion.

Although the presidency has always denied it suspended Sanusi over the missing funds, the issue seem to have died down since Sanusi’s suspension, leaving reasons to doubt the presidency’s claim.
