The Department of State Security Service (SSS) in Kano yesterday urged residents of the state to be vigilant, especially in places of worship and report any strange event or development to law enforcement agents.
State director of the service, Mr. Bassey Eteng, who made this known in a parley with reporters in Kano on Wednesday, said that residents should always be security alert during congregational prayers.
He said: “This is not to send any panic but it is important for people of the state to be vigilant during congregational prayers in Mosques and churches in view of the prevailing events. If you see anything strange, please report to the nearest security post”.
According to him, the relative peace being enjoyed in the state is as a result of the prayers and cooperation of the people with security agencies.
“While the people of the state are happy in view of the peace we are enjoying, there are some people who are working to make the state unhappy.
“That is why we are asking you to be wary of any object you see around you. We have discovered, especially in public places that people go and drop things containing explosives. So if you see polythene bags, wheelbarrows or any strange object please don’t go close to it, just draw the attention of security personnel”, he said.
Eteng while reiterating the commitment of security agencies in the state to sustain the existing peace, also asked the people to be cautious when giving answers to enquiries about certain places from strange faces.
“There is also a new trend of threat in the state whereby people lure children with small things like sweets or biscuits in order to kidnap them. So be mindful of the people you entrust your children with”, he said.
