According to reports, a Mitsubishi Canter with Lagos registration number MUS 195 XE while trying to avoid collision with a trailer reportedly swerved towards it but lost control in the process.

Mrs. Tinuade Okunade, an eyewitness, said all the accident victims were destitute people who usually sit at the road median to collect alms from passers-by.

“The incident occurred at about 1:30 this afternoon. The vehicle that killed the victims was trying to dodge a trailer that swerved towards it but the brakes failed and it rammed into the median where the beggars were seated,” Okunade narrated.

The identities of the victims were yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing the report but the driver of the lorry was said to have taken to his heels to prevent being lynched by the crowd that was already building up

When news reporter visited the scene of the accident, the vehicle had been towed to the premises of the Lagos State traffic agency in Anthony, while men of agency were seen trying to free the road for commuters making their way to Ikorodu.

The injured were also said to have been taken away by men of the Lagos Emergence Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), who sources say also took the corpses away.
