5 Common Mistakes to Avoid While Shaving Your Legs

leg hair

Using a razor to shave away unwanted leg hair seems like a much more convenient option than waxing. But let’s not forget the rash, irritation and razor bumps that follow after. If you’ve faced these and other shaving problems, it’s probably because you’ve made one or more of these common mistakes while shaving your legs.

1. Dry shaving
One should never ever shave dry unless you’re using an electric razor. Lather is a must while shaving in order to ensure a smooth shave. Dry shaving will hamper a smooth shave and will leave razor burns, which will later cause irritation.

2. Not exfoliating
Exfoliation is necessary to scrub away dry and flaky skin before shaving. Skipping exfoliation before you shave will cause those dead cells to build up on the razor blade and will make shaving less effective. You will have to keep re-shaving and washing your razor to rinse out the flaky skin.

3. Shaving in the wrong direction
Shaving haphazardly in every direction is another reason for razor burns and ingrown hair. Ideally you should shave in the direction of your hair growth (downwards) and then go for an upwards swipe for a closer shave. However, avoid upward shaving if you have sensitive skin.

4. Not moisturizing after shaving
Another common shaving mistake made by many is ignoring moisturizing after shaving. Moisturizing will help smoothen the skin and also soothe any kind of irritation or cuts caused during shaving.

5. Ignoring razor burns
However, if you still end up with razor burns after shaving, ensure you treat them quickly as untreated razor burns can cause an infection. Use a warm compress on the affected area to relax it.
