The Director-General of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, has confirmed the allegations that chemical weapons were used by suspected gunmen in the recent attacks on a community in Benue State and has called on the Federal Government to urgently look into the allegation.

Orhii said he saw for the first time, the canister shells used to conceal the chemical that was used in the attack.

Information Nigeria reports that the suspicion was raised that chemicals were possibly used in the recent attack on Sengev community in Gwer West Local Government of Benue when 10 persons, including women and children, were found dead foaming in the mouth, with no gunshot wounds or bruises to their bodies.

“Chemical weapons have been used on our people and for the first time, I saw it yesterday. It was concealed in canister shells”, the NAFDAC DG said.

Orhii, who donated relief items worth over N20 million to internally displaced persons within Makurdi, said that the crisis needed to be nipped in the bud before it poses a major problem to the entire country.

He however sued for peace among the warring factions to enable peace prevail for the positive development of the state.
