The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Friday in Abuja said it has given approval for the registration of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN.
This is contained in a statement signed by INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi.
According to Osaze-Uzzi, the registration of the party was approved at the last meeting of the commission which held on April 17.
With UPN’s registration, the total number of political parties in Nigeria now stands at 26.
The terse statement released by Osaze-Uzzi reads in part: “The commission at its meeting held on Thursday April 17, approved the registration of the UPN, the applicant having met the legal requirements for registration.
“The registration of UPN brings to 26 the total number of political parties in Nigeria”.
