John Utaka Tips Eagles for History in Brazil- Report

Sivasspor Nigerian forward John Utaka has backed the African champions to make history and become the first blcak nation to win the World Cup in Brazil.

In an EXCLUSIVE interview with African Football, Utaka says he will be “disappointed” not to make coach Stephen Keshi’s squad for Brazil.

“I’m still available to play for Nigeria. I will be disappointed not to play at the World Cup, but I will hold no grudges if I do not,” the 32-year-old, who played for the Super Eagles at the 2002 and 2010 tournament said.

The former Portsmouth of England winger believes the Eagles will go far in Brazil.

“The team did well to win the Africa Cup of Nations and they will do well at the World Cup also,” he added.

“They could reach the semi-final and even win the World Cup. We have won the Olympics, why not the World Cup now?

“We have to be optimistic and push forward.

“We were not rated to win the 1996 Olympics, but we did, beating the likes of Brazil and Argentina on the way.”

Utaka have scored thrice since returning from injury, including the match winner against Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray last weekend.
