Bayer Leverkusen have announced Red Bull Salzburg boss Roger Schmidt as Sami Hypia’s successor.
The Bundesliga club said on Friday it signed Schmidt, 47, on a two-year contract.
The German coach guided Salzburg to this season’s Austrian championship title. He will finish the season with his current side before taking over from caretaker coach Sacha Lewandowski, who will be in charge for Leverkusen’s remaining three matches and then return to his previous role as head coach of the club’s junior team.
Bayer are fourth in the Bundesliga and vying for one of the slots for next season’s Champions League.
Leverkusen fired Hypia three weeks ago following a run of poor results.
Schmidt used a buy-out clause in his contract with Salzburg to see through the move.
