Rafael Nadal notched up his 300th victory on clay with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Andreas Seppi tp progress to the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday.
The top seed is only the 11th man to reach the landmark- with fellow Spaniard Carlos Monya the last to make the same achievement.
“I did what I had to,” said the world number one.
He will be up against compatriot David Ferrer, who beat Bulgarian Grigor Dmitrov 5-4, 6-2, as he bids to claim a third title in 2014 ahead of his French Open defence.
“Playing David (Ferrer) is never easy. If you are not at the top of your game, you will lose,” he added.
“I’m just glad to be in a quarter-final.”
Defending champion Novak Djokovic, who ended the Spaniard’s eight-year Monte Carlo winning run in 2013, saw off Pablo Carreno 6-0, 6-1.
The Serb only dropped a game in his route to beating Carreno, ranked at 62nd on the ATP ladder.
World number two, Djokovic, will play Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who beat fifth seed Tomas Berdych 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Roger Federer also advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lukas Rosol. Federer faces a last-eight tie with Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Reigning Australian Open champions, Stanislas Wawrinka, progressed to the quarter-finals without hitting a ball when Spaniard Nicolas Almagro retired with a foot injury before their third round match.
