President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba, has expressed satisfaction with Team Nigeria’s performance at the 2014 Mt. Sac Relays in Carlifornia, USA.
Ogba told newsmen on Thursday that the results posted by the Nigerian athletes impressed members of the athletics federation, adding they are looking forward to a better outing at the World Relays championships in Nassau, Bahamas on May 24-25.
Nigeria’s women’s Team B in the 4×400m, which comprises of home-based talents such as Ada Benjamin, Rita Osai, Tameka Jameson and Josephine Ehigie finished in a time of 3.28.78secs (Personal Best) to claim the event; third on the IAAF top ten list for the season.
Salihu Isah, Joseph Urukpe, Nicholas Imhoapermhe, Noah Akwu and Abiola Onokoya secured a third-place finish in 3.06.44secs in the men’s 4×400 race.
Stephen Mozia claimed second spot in the men’s shot put with his second (19.62) of two thrusts, after three failed attempts.
“It was a good outing and the result is very assuring,” Ogba said. “The women 4×400m B team had their personal best, the men 4×400m showed they can still compete again and also our shot putter Stanley Mozia performed creditably.”
In the 4×100m, Chukwudike Harry, Noah Akwu, Nicholas Imhoapermhe and Obinna Metu also sealed third place in 40.22secs, while Peace Uko, Gloria Asumnu, Dumigues Duncan, Francesca Okwara, came fifth in 43.31secs.
Ogba adds that Nigeria’s build-up for the World Relays continues with the Penns Relays, where the nation will be competing with the likes of the Jamaica,, China, Bahamas and hosts the United States of America.
