Uefa has announced that English referee Howard Webb will take centre-stage for the Champions League semi-final first-leg clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Webb previously officiated a Real-Bayern semis in the 2011-12 season, although Wednesday’s top of the bill European fixture will hold at the Santiago Bernebeu as against the Allianz Arena venue of his previous experience.
The Yorkshire officer was also in charge of the 2010 final at the Bernebeu, in which Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan beat Bayern Munich.
Webb has been involved in two Real matches this season, the 2-2 draw away at Juventus and the 6-1 last-16 first leg drubbing of Schalke in Germany.
He also officiated Atletico’s 2-1 win away at Porto in the group stage and the quarter-final second leg tie between Atletico and Barcelona, in which the Los Roji Blancos emerged a 1-0 winner to book a semi-final clash with Chelsea.
Meanwhile Jonas Eriksson has been confirmed as referee for Tuesday night’s semi-final match between Atletico and Chelsea.
