Chelsea FC defender Kenneth Omeruo will earn three times his previous wage, after putting pen to paper for an improved deal at the Premier League club.
The centre-back has signed a new three-year contract, following months of negotiation between his agents and the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Omeruo’s representatives had first turned down two offers by Chelsea before penning down 15,000 pounds a week contract, as reported by sports newspaper Soccer Star on Saturday- a 33% increase on his initial 5000 pound a week deal.
The 20-year-old featured this season at Championship side Middlesbrough and earned 7000 pounds per week. The improvement signifies the club’s intent to keep the highly rated defender, who has had previous loan spell at Dutch club ADO Den Haag, with his initial contract due for June 2015.
The World Cup bound defender has the prospect of earning much more should he break into the Chelsea first team, continued the newspaper, but he looks well in line for another loan spell away from the West London club.
Omeruo was not listed in the Super Eagles squad in Wednesday’s draw against Scotland at Craven Cottage, but has been training with the squad in Philadelphia ahead of Monday’s final squad announcement and next Wednesday’s warm-up against Greece in the USA.
