Dad Killed Daughter by Strapping Her Into Car Seat and Throwing Her Into a Stream

A dad is to be sentenced for killing his baby daughter by strapping her into a weighted car seat and hurling her into a river.

Homeless Arthur E. Morgan III denied the murder of two-year-old Tierra Morgan-Glover, his defence arguing he was distressed at the time after losing his job and was suffering from lack of sleep.

He claimed he was distraught with the way the child was being brought up by her mother and threw in the stream “to let God decide her fate”.

But a jury in New Jersey convicted him of murder and he now faces life in prison without parole.

The state abandoned the death penalty in 2007.

Prosecutors told the court how Morgan had planned the crime, pawning items beforehand and making arrangements to flee to California.

He told the child’s mother Imani Benton, he was taking Tierra to watch ‘Happy Feet II’ at the cinema.

Instead he took her to Shark River Park, strapped her into a car seat, attached a metal car jack and tossed her from a bridge into a stream around 17ft below.

He later told police he could still hear Tierra crying when he turned and walked away, leaving her in the stream to die.

When the jury foreman announced his guilty verdict, Morgan smiled and winked at photographers as he was led out of court.
