Olivier Giroud still strugling to replicate Robin Vanpersie’s scintillating form
When Robin Vanpersie announced his decision to quit his boyhood club, it didn’t come down well with the Arsenal faithful as they expressed their frustrations to his verdict.
Infact some fans went berserk by wishing him dead, whilst others predicted an awful season at his new club, Manchester United- it was horrendous.
However, it wasn’t to be the case. Robin guided the red devils to a 20th league title; scoring tons of mouth-watering goals.
That same season, Wenger bought Olivier Giroud from french side Montpellier for a fee believed to be around £9.6 million.
Even though Giroud showed he’s worth every penny in his maiden season in london, however, he didn’t provide that Robin-esque spark that the fans were accustomed to. His lack of will to chase after the ball and poor finishes compounded the frustrations, that fans chanted ” We need a striker ” at match-days, despite the striker finishing with 17 goals and 11 assists in 47 appearances in his first season.
Last season would ostensibly become his best campaign at the club. Giroud, now settled at the club, continued to work in tandem with new recruit Mesut Ozil and scored some fine goals. He was the main catalyst that guided Arsenal to a well-deserved Fa Cup final against HullCity.
With Nicklas Bendtner set to leave after failing to commit to the club, and Yaya Sanogo still raw, the gunners would be hoping to bring a striker to compliment Giroud despite his improved demeanor infront of goal.
The gunners are linked with new faces this summer, Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa, Radamel Falcao to name a few.
We throw the puzzling question back to our readers: Do Arsenal need a new striker?
