Everton manager Roberto Martinez has warned Roy Hodgson to avoid setting the fulcrum of England’s attacking plans on his 20-year old midfielder.

The player who has been in outstanding from for his club, and recently scored a fantastic goal against crowned Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League was selected in the provisional squad for the Lions in the Fifa World Cup.

Similar to Jack Wilshere’s rise, Pundits and fans alike are expecting the young man to deliver and help guide England to a World Cup triumph in Brazil.

However, his Manager at Everton is cautious to such approach. He said:

“What is important is, as a nation, we have a responsibility to look after a young man who goes to the World Cup with the only intention of helping England be as good as they can.

“He is still young and we have to protect him. If we protect him well we are talking about a potential world-class talent.

“But it is down to us to allow him time and a little bit of a path to fulfil his potential with England.

“We shouldn’t expect Ross Barkley, at the age of 20, to go into a World Cup and be someone who has to win games single-handedly. That would be very wrong.”

Ross Barkely had the chance to play for Nigeria because he is from a Nigerian descent, but the NFF made no plans to lure the player to Africa.
