Hero Passer-by Delivers Dying Mum’s Miracle Baby After horror Car Crash

An heroic passer-by miraculously delivered a baby from her dying mum following an horrific car crash.

Despite having only basic first aid knowledge, Iria Wolnick managed to deliver baby Emma through a severe wound to her mum Niser’s abdomen.

The baby survived but sadly Niser Saldana-Quilantan later died in hospital.

Iria had stopped at the scene of a horrific crash in rural Texas when she discovered Niser Saldana-Quilantan, her boyfriend Edward Ortega and toddler Adrallis Ortega had been thrown from their vehicle.

Iria could hear the screams of Niser crying out asking if her unborn baby was alright.

It was then she noticed the 19-year-old had suffered terrible injuries in the accident and had a huge wound to her stomach.

“She kept asking ‘Ma’am how’s my baby? How’s my baby?” Iria said.

“I thought she was asking about the toddler, but then I looked down and saw her stomach.

“My reaction was to spring into action and do what I could.”

The baby’s head and arm were sticking out and mum-of-four Iria knew she had to act quickly or the child would die.

Acting on intuition and on what little first aid training she had, the massage therapist delivered the six-pound, 11-ounce baby through the wound in Niser’s abdomen.

“The baby’s head and one of her hands was protruded out of the laceration that she had to her abdomen, and the baby was crying which is unbelievable and wonderful,” she explained.

A passing truck driver managed to tie off the umbilical cord with his shoelace.

After delivering the little girl, named Emma Lyn Anahi Ortega, Iria was able to obtain a heartbeat and heard the baby cry just before medics arrived in the scene.

Sadly the boy’s mother died later in hospital.

Two-year-old Adrallis and his father, Edward were injured, but managed to make a full recovery following the accident that happened at around midnight on July 5 last year.

Now Iria has been honoured by police for her bravery and presented with a plaque.

“These days, a lot of people would drive right by, thinking it’s someone else’s responsibility,’ said Lieutenant Jeremy Rowland.

“Her actions were truly rare and heroic. If it hadn’t been for her, two people would have died that night.”

Captain Les Bishop said he had never heard a highway rescue story like it.

“For someone with limited training, to be acting only on instinct, to do something like this, well, she deserves this and a lot more,’ he said.

“It’s something you would expect from law enforcement or a paramedic, but from a citizen. It’s truly extraordinary.”

At her ceremony Iria recalled she was travelling to a funeral at the time of coming across the accident.

She said: “I was given the opportunity to bring life into the world in those conditions.

“It’s not something that happens every day.”
