Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has undergone successful surgery on the dislocated shoulder he suffered in the Champions League semi-final first leg goalless draw at Atletico Madrid.
Cech came off after just 18 minutes on the Vicente Calderon pitch, following a collision with Atletico’s Raul Garcia.
The 31-year-old will be out of action for 8-10 weeks, meaning he could miss the start of pre-season training with Chelsea.
The Czech Republic first choice surprisingly returned to training last week, after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had ruled him out for the remainder of the season. He would yet not have any role to play in the deciding weeks of Chelsea’s trophyless season, as Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has manned the post.
