Jonathan Seeks Extension Of Emergency Rule

President Goodluck Jonathan is seeking for the extension of the state of emergency in three North-Eastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe as terror attacks remain unabated in the area.

Jonathan made this known in a letter sent to the Senate, saying despite the state of emergency declared in those three states, the security situation in those states is yet to be stabilised as the attacks by Boko Haram has not abated.

The most recent and probably most audacious of such attacks, which has drawn global condemnation was the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State by the sect.

Several countries have lend their support to ensure the girls are rescued and reunited with their families safely.

If the Senate approves the extension of emergency rule, it will make it the second extension in the three northern states.
