Mourinho Fined £10,000 for Comments On Referees

Jose Mourinho has been fined £10,000 for comments he made after Chelsea’s home loss to Sunderland on April 19.

The Portuguese boss “congratulated” referee Mike Dean, following his side’s first loss at Stamford Bridge over his two spells.

Those comments “brought the game to disrepute”, read a Football Association (FA) statement and the 51-year-old boss is guilty of improper conduct.

Mourinho also lost an appeal against an £8,000 fine for a previous offense.

The manager made his way onto the pitch to approach referee Chris Foy and try to speak to him before being sent to the stands during his side’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa. He had denied his actions during the loss were a breach of the FA rules.

But an independent regulatory commission said Mourinho was guilty of improper conduct and that appeal had been upheld by an appeal panel.

Chelsea are third in the Premier League table with one more match to go.
