The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) on Friday commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to grant amnesty to members of the Boko Haram sect.
The president had in his Democracy Day nationwide broadcast reiterated his administration’s resolve to de-radicalise, rehabilitate and fully re-integrate members of the sect, who genuinely lay down their arms and embrace dialogue, which was still open.
In response to this statement by President Jonathan, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, also called on Boko Haram to embrace peace.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Israel A. Ebije, Gov. Aliyu said the amnesty is a welcome idea.
He assured that governors from the region are ready to cooperate with the federal government to address the insurgents’ grievances, adding that steps would be taken to ensure that they are usefully re-integrated into the society.
Describing the president’s gesture as laudable, Aliyu noted that the amnesty would help restore peace and harmony in troubled areas of the country.
The NSGF chairman, therefore, insisted that until members of the sect lay down their arms, development and growth of the region will only be a mirage.
Gov. Aliyu lamented that insecurity has increased fear, encouraged suspicion and put national development in the reverse gear, adding that the essence of nationhood can only be revived when lasting peace, reconciliation and political harmony is propagated and sustained.
Amnesty deal is a very welcome idea,BUT do u think those hooligans know anything about amnesty or will care about it? Well, let’s keep trying several ways, anyone that works sha. Thanks for ur fortitude to offer amnesty deal inspite of all odd Mr President.

I am really disappointing in this country because boko haram kill people and the next thing they talk is Amnesty, why? life of people are not more important in this country so why do we have government if Nigeria continue like this, when government cannot fight for the life of the citizen then we should just go different ways with this animal called there self Muslim and they are not because Allah do not say you should kill people for peace to rain.
Nonsense country,Amnesty my foot!what sort of Gov.are these, pay killers that have been rated higher than even Al-Queda?pay rapists, using allmost all the nations resouces to pay pple while some are still mourning their dead?how many would be payed?including recruits from Chad and Benin Republic?why then did US and other countries offered to help? Then more uinsurgents, jobless tauts will rise deadlier than Boko Haram cos of future Amnesty.Mtchewwwww!
