Emir Of Gombe Laid To Rest

The remains of the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, were buried in his palace in Gombe at 7:20 p.m. on Friday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.

The emir died on May 27 in a London hospital.

The Chief Imam of Gombe Central Mosque, Imam Aminu Pindiga, led the funeral prayer.

The funeral was attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, PDP National Chairman Adamu Mu’azu and Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed and that of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, attended the funeral.

The Deputy Governors of Gombe and Bauchi, Mr Tha’anda Rubainu and Alhaji Sagir Aminu-Saleh, were also in attendance.

Some indigenes of the state who spoke with newsmen described the death of the emir as a great loss to the state and the country at large.

Alhaji Bayero Nafada, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, prayed God to give the state another emir that would continue with the good works of the late emir.
