FG To Actively Participate In Akunyili’s Funeral Rites – Maku

AKUNYILIdMinister of Information, Labaran Maku, has promised that his ministry would be actively involved in the funeral rites for late Prof. Dora Akunyili.

Maku said this when he led top officials of the ministry on a condolence visit to the Akunyili family in Abuja, a statement by the minister’s spokesman Joseph Mutah said.

Maku, who commiserated with the family of the deceased, said they should take solace in the fact that Mrs. Akunyili lived a life that impacted positively on Nigerians, “though her demise was painful”.

Maku, who succeeded the late Akunyili as minister of information, described her as a patriot and a role model for young women who had uncommon passion and commitment to Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan said the late Akunyili left behind a high standard of service for them to maintain.

Mrs. Akunyili died on Saturday, June 7, 2014, in an Indian Specialist Hospital at the age of 59 after a two year battle with cancer.
