The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took place at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja on June 5, 2014, Thursday. According to decisions of the 65th meeting, the much-awaited National Conference would be conducted after the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, revealed this and other crucial points in a four-item statement.
First of all, NEC considered and adopted corrections to errors noticed in the 2012 amended constitution of the party. All the corrections have been effected accordingly and in consistent with the motion of amendment moved and carried at the 2012 national convention.
Secondly the PDP agreed to hold its National Conference after the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan. This means that the conference may take place not earlier than August 2014.
Thirdly, NEC has unanimously passed an overwhelming vote of confidence on President Goodluck Jonathan and particularly praised the decisive steps so far taken to contain insurgency in the country.
Finally, the ruling party emphasised in its slogan, “power to the people”, urged all the members and stakeholders to always remember it and use it at all the political events of the party nationwide.
The meeting was attended by President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Members of the National Assembly, PDP State Governors and other NEC members.
The PDP still maintains the intrigue on who gets the Presidential ticket for 2015 general elections.
