Chairman of the National Conference, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi (rtd), yesterday commended the delegates for standing by him during his wife’s funeral.
The ex-Chief Judge of the Federation’s wife, Maryam, died last Wednesday from an undisclosed ailment and was buried according to Islamic rites.
According to the chairman, most delegates became his pillars of support during the burial and expressed his gratitude to them for commiserating with him following the incident.
Justice Kutigi particularly singled out his deputy, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, who stood in for him for exemplary support.
He noted that not only did Akinyemi come to his house to commiserate with him, but also accompanied him to the mosque and to the burial ground where his late wife was buried according to Islamic injunctions, though the deputy is not a Muslim.
Prof Akinyemi’s gesture, the chairman said, was a practical example that Muslims and Christians could co-exist in peace and harmony.
