A Toronto man has been convicted of second-degree murder for killing and dismembering his ex-girlfriend, then scattering the pieces around the city and Niagara Falls.

The jury deliberated for about 13 hours before finding Chun Qi Jiang guilty Thursday in the killing of Guang Hua Liu, 41, in August 2012. Both the victim and suspect were born in China and naturalized as Canadian citizens.

The conviction comes with an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for between 10 and 25 years.

Prosecutors said Jiang killed Liu, with whom he had an on-again-off-again relationship, after she rejected him for another man.

The defense said it was Jiang’s mother, 66, who fatally stabbed and dismembered Liu in a fit of rage, while her son helped cover up the crime.
