Nadal Sets Up Ferrer in French Open Quarter-Final

Defending champion Rafael Nadal have reached the last-8 of the French Open, after straight set win over unseeded Serbian Dusan Lajovic.

The record eight-time champion kept hopes of a successive title alive with a 6-1 6-2 6-1 in the Court Philippe Chatrier on Monday afternoon.

He faces compatriot and fifth seed David Ferrer, who saw off South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-3 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-1, in a repeat of last year’s Roland Garros final in the quarter-finals.

“I am happy with the way I played, not many mistakes, I was able to control the points from the baseline,” said Nadal. I am looking forward to playing against David [Ferrer].

Lajovic won just five points on the Spaniard’s serve in the
first 14 games but somehow manages to win three in a row to set up three break points in the second.

However he saw that advantage disappear into thin air as the top seed turn it up a notch on

Nadal broke three times in the deciding set to go 5-0 up, and finally sealed his passage after rattling off four straight points to break Lajovic for the fourth time.

“Dusan played a great tournament, the first time you play on this court it is not easy. I wish him all the best for the season, he will be higher in the rankings very soon,” the 28-year-old added”

The win extends Nadal’s record winning streak at the championship to 32 and has not lost since losing a round of 16 tie to Robin Soderling in 2009 with an 88-1 record.
