The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State branch, has alleged that no fewer than 100 people have so far been killed in the attacks on villages in Sanga Local Government Area of the state by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

The allegation by CAN came on the heels of the announcement by the State Police command that they had arrested three of the suspected attackers and recovered three AK47 riffles and 158 rounds of ammunition.

The CAN’s Secretary in the state, Rev. Sunday Ibrahim, who spoke at a press conference on Wednesday, claimed that information available to the association from its local chapter in the local government, suggested that no fewer than 100 people had been killed in the attack.

He said, “Reports reaching me from our Sanga branch reveal that terrible things have happened to our members there. We are told that over 100 people have been killed from yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon into the night. This is very sad.

“Residents of Kaduna State must learn to respect the sanctity of human lives. No religion preaches murder of any person. The villages that were attacked were Dogon Daji, Kobin, Naidu, Kabamu-Karshi, Hayin Kwanta, Kabani and Gani.

“Some people have been arrested among the attackers and were identified as Fulani men. I believe that they are terrorists because the Fulani that we live with cannot do this thing. I call on the state government and security agencies to intensify security on our vulnerable communities and I want to urge our people to stay calm and not take the law into their hands, for that will not be the way of Christians”.

Ibrahim added, “As the Fulanis were pulling out their cows, that was how they keep shooting, killing people and two of the attackers that were killed had mobile police uniforms. We are surprised that despite a peace pact signed, such an attack can still take place. Authorities concerned should do something concerning the houses destroyed and the food the displaced will eat at the camp.

“It’s something you cannot hide. The people that carry out the attacks are terrorists and Fulani by tribe. The decent Fulani we know won’t kill people without pity.

“There was a time some of us did not belief that the killings in Southern Kaduna have any religious connotation, but from the chanting, it has taking a religious dimension. The government must step up security in the Southern part of Kaduna state”, the Kaduna CAN scribe said.
