An Alabama woman is lucky to be alive after she fell asleep between railway tracks and a train passed over her, police say.

Authorities in Auburn received several calls Wednesday morning from concerned citizens who reported a train had run over a woman at a local railroad crossing.

When police arrived at the scene, officers found 22-year-old Lynsey Horne, still on the tracks.

According to Auburn police Captain Lorenza Dorsey, Horne was intoxicated, but uninjured.

“She’s very fortunate that the train went over her and did not strike her,” Dorsey told The Huffington Post on Friday.

Dorsey credited the woman’s small build for saving her life, as well as the size of the train that passed over her.

“She is petite and it was a very short train,” he said. “It consisted of two engines and one car.”

Horne was arrested and faces charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

All things considered, the outcome could have been a lot worse.

“She’s a very lucky young lady,” Dorsey said.
