We Would Announce New Emir Of Kano On Sunday — Governor Kwankwaso

Following the death of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero on June 6, 2014, Governor of Kano state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said a new Emir would be announced today, June 8.

Governor Kwankwaso made this disclosure during a a visit by Kano kingmakers, Madakin Kano, Sarkin Bai, Sarkin Dawakin Mai’tuta, and Makaman Kano who submitted the shortlist to the Governor.

The governor added: “The kingmakers, led by their Chairman, are here to condole with me over the death of our Emir and, want to assure you that we would announce the new Emir on Sunday.”

According to Vanguard, they submitted to the governor their shortlist of four candidates, two each from the Sanusi dynasty and the Alhaji Ado Ruling House.

The kingmakers were also said to have recommended the son of the late Emir, who also doubles as the Chiroman Kano, to succeed his late father, stressing that the choice remains a stabilising factor for now.

Earlier, it was reported that former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and 29 others are candidates contesting for the position of the Emir of Kano.
