Yobo Draws Curtain on International Career

Joseph Yobo has decided to bring his illustrious international career to a close, following his Nigeria exit from the round of 16 of the Fifa World Cup on Monday.

The Super Eagles skiper earned his 100th Nigeria cap same day the African champions were knocked out of the last-16 of the tournament by France in Brasilia.

The 33-year-old, who also became the first Nigerian to play 10 Fifa World Cup matches, announced after the 2-0 loss to France he will now like to spend more time with his family.

“It was a bittersweat moment for me but I think it is time to focus on my family. It has been a long road,” said Yobo at the post-match briefing on Monday.

‘Les Bleus’ knocked Nigeria out of the 2014 World Cup, after a fragile closing minutes display by the African champions.

Paul Pogba’s header and Yobo’s unfortunate own-goal landed the final punch on Nigeria’s ambition in Brazil.

The Fenerbahce defender however says Eagles were unlucky particularly after an encouraging first-half display.

“I have said it that it is not all about 100 caps but our progress to the quarter-finals, it is unfortunate that we couldn’t,” added Yobo.

“We played well but not lucky to score. That’s football, we take it like that.”
