Abuja Bombing Victims In Need Of Blood Donations – Hospital

Blood-bags-2-CARMMAThe authorities at the Mataima District Hospital, where majority of victims of last Wednesday’s Emab Plaza bombing are receiving treatment, have called on Nigerians to donate blood for the victims.

The hospital secretary, Mrs. Angela Effiong told reporters yesterday that the hospital is in dire need of blood supplies as a result of the persistent spate of bombings in Abuja in recent times.

Mrs. Effiong said that “blood donors play an integral role in the survival of these bomb blast victims as many lifesaving medical treatments and procedures involve blood transfusion”.

According to her, “Whenever there are medical emergencies, you don’t ask victims to bring blood; we get blood from our blood bank, which are donations from people like you”.

Mrs. Effiong said that the hospital needed blood donations now more than ever as there was an increasing need for blood by patients every day.

“Some patients need blood every second and just one pint of blood can save up to three lives. Healthy adults who are at least 17 years old may donate about a pint of blood every 56 days, or every two months”, she explained.
