The Governor described the report as another smear campaign by his traducers.

Governor Akpabio who reacted to the report through his Chief Press Secretary, Pastor Anietie Ukpe expressed shock at the comments allegedly made by the Nigeria Ambassador to Russia, Chief Assam Assam SAN, in a letter to the Secretary to Government, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and published in newspapers and the Internet.

Akpabio proverbially cautioned his political sons with a rebellious spirit not to seek the destruction of their father in order to achieve their ambition like Absalom tried to.

He said it was regrettable that Chief Assam would resort to a deliberate misrepresentation of his comments during the ground breaking ceremony for the Permanent PDP Secretariat, insisting that he did so out of mischief and to shed crocodile tears and curry public sympathy.

The governor further charged politicians to engage in constructive idea and desist from destructive pronouncements meant to incite people, create disaffection and fan the embers of disunity”.

It was reported on July 17 that Governor Akpabio had said sudden death will be the portion of those who plan getting to power through the backdoor.

He also appealed to his people, asking to support Jonathan-led administration, as that is the only thing that can help encourage the troubled president saying: “Let us not only support, but pray for the President.”
