Former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has said President Goodluck Jonathan has declared war on his own country.
The leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Kaduna said:
”Our country has gone through several rough patches, but never before have I seen a Nigerian President declare war on his own country as we are seeing now. Never before have I seen a Nigerian President deploy federal institutions in the service of partisanship as we are witnessing now.
Never before have I seen a Nigerian President utilize the common wealth to subvert the system and punish the opposition, all in the name of politics. Our nation has suffered serious consequences in the past for egregious acts that are not even close to what we are seeing now. It is time to pull the brakes.”
Buhari said the developments in the polity has become an unwelcome distraction for the nation’s ongoing survival battle against the Boko Haram sect, which has put Nigeria on tenterhooks, with innocent citizens being killed daily.
”In my capacity as a former head of state, rather than a politician, I have spoken to President Jonathan in private over these issues, but indications are that the strategy has not yielded positive fruits. I cannot, just because I am an opposition politician, fail to do what is expected of me as a former head of state to help rescue our nation in times of great trouble and palpable uncertainty.
”History will not be kind to me if I sit back while things turn bad, just so that no one will accuse me of partisanship. Yes, I am a politician. Yes, I am in the opposition. Yes, there is the tendency for my statement to be misconstrued as that of a politician rather than a statesman. But I owe it as matter of duty and honour, and in the interest of our nation, to speak out on the dangerous trajectory that our nation is heading.
”I can say, in all sincerity, that I have seen it all, as an ordinary citizen, a military officer, a state Governor, a Minister, a Head of State, a man who has occupied many other sensitive posts and a politician. I have been a close participant and witness to Nigeria’s political history since independence in 1960.”
Buhari who is known to be outspoken and doesn’t hesitate to share his opinion on the Jonathan-led government recently took to facebook to express his discontent with the current situation in the country and to assure that the present administration will soon be a matter of the past.
According to Buhari: “What we are witnessing today of impunity and political rascality as demonstrated by the selective targeting and persecution of opposition politicians is an attempt to subdue the will of Nigerians who have made clear their commitment to free their country from the grip of an incompetent leadership that is bent on severing the ties of nationhood and ruining whatever progress we have made as a country.”
Meanwhile a political group, known as the Buhari Vanguard on July 16 said it is time for the leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Major General (rtd.) Muhammadu Buhari, to rule the country and restore the dreams of Nigerians.

Buhari is absolutely right. Nigeria needs to be wrestled from this incompetent govt, which survives on sympathy from Nigerians. Except those that are fed, an average breadwinner in Naija wants a change of leadership @ the centre.

Buhari is a failure. No weapon Fashion against Jonathan and his administration shall prosper because the course of the front line opposition will never be in favor of the ordinary man, because if voted in power, they will spend 95% of their regime to pay evil revenge starting from Obasanjo’s regime – Jonathan.
who are dose unpatrioratic citizenz makiin an unnecessary and stupid comment about gen buhari (rtd) once head of state who has experience about politic whose his administration runs witout shading any innocent blood
The Jonathan government is nothing but a government that drinks the blood of poor ordinary Nigerians
Buharia declared a war that he is not prepared to fight. Did he assume from the outset that we will all outrun our shadows, we he promised blood to spill like fowls’ in a country he assert to be its statesman
Well, president Jonathan is the only leader from history that has always tolerated the opposition,Buhari should be hiding his face and sorting for ways to apologise to Nigerians on his well reported statement in 2011 “that if he don’t win,Nigeria will be ungovernable”l
Buhari ugly nama what are you saying about our president, buhari you that don’t even know your right from your left you are blaming jonathan for your party’s evil doings buhariplease dress bed well before you dress you talk about other persons room, ugly cow buhari.
The War Has Just Begun! May God See Us Through The Election Period.
Its so unfortunate youths of this nation are so blind to see through the line of truth. Jonathan has done more damage than good. Who don’t know that Boko Haram is an hand work of Jonathan to seek sympathy from Nigerians. Don’t you watch advert of ChannelsTv on Jonathan. Why is Asiri Dokubo arrest at Benin Repulic (Arm struggle) like his compatriot (Niger-Delta Militans). We all understand the plight south-south as regards GEJ (na their broda) we are not fools either.
