Luis Joins Chelsea from Atletico Until 2017

Chelsea confirms Filipe Luis has signed a three-year contract from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

Luis look to become a direct replacement for Ashley Cole, who moved to Roma last week.

“This move is a dream come true for me,” Luis told the club’s official website. “I now have the opportunity to play for Chelsea, and also in the Premier League.

“I’m very happy and looking forward to getting started and giving my best for the team during the coming seasons.”

The 28-year-old made 44 appearances for ‘Los Rojiblancos’ on their way to clinching the La Liga title and reaching the final of the Champions League last season.

He is the second Atletico player to switch the Estadio Vicente Calderon for Stamford Bridge this summer following the signing of Spain striker Diego Costa in a £32m deal.

Costa will wear shirt number 19 while Luis will wear number 5 shirt, says Chelsea.

Atletico revealed Luis, who joined from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2010, told them he wanted to join the ‘Blues’ at the end of the last season.

He made 180 appearances for the Spanish champions and has 4 Brazil caps.
