Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been ruled out of his club’s tour of North America through “a mild bout of malaria”.
The Togo international was admitted to hospital on Saturday after complaining to Spurs medical staff and subsequent diagnosis revealed the disease, which is believed to be in its “early stage.”
Adabayor, 30, is expected to be discharged from the hospital on today, but will have to sit out of training for at least a week.
“The player has been advised not to travel on medical grounds, which means he will be forced to miss our pre-season tour of North America,” read the club’s statement.
The White hart Lane outfit begin their pre-season tour with a game against Seattle Sounders on 19 July, before playing Toronto FC and Chicago Fire.
Mauricio Porchetino’s men are scheduled to visit West Ham United in the first Premier League game of the 2014/15 season.
Adebayor scored 14 goals for the ‘Lilly Whites’ last season, after being excluded from the squad in the early stages of the campaign.
