The last has not been heard of Ekiti State governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose’s thank you visit to Ibadan as the ruling Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged in a war of words over the visit.
Chairman of Oyo State PDP, Alhaji Yinka Taiwo, on Saturday, described the comments by the APC that Fayose should steer clear of Oyo State and that the PDP supporters that trooped out to welcome the Ekiti governor-elect in Ibadan was a rented crowd, as laughable and unreasonable.
Taiwo, in a press release he personally signed and made available to journalists, advised the APC to cover its face in shame for being sore losers. He said the Oyo APC had become jittery as a result of its catastrophic failure in governance, which has led to its declining fortune in the South-west as evident in the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.
“It is pitiable as well as laughable that the APC in Oyo State chose to become meddlesome and restless over a thank you visit made by the man of the people and conqueror of APC propaganda republic, Governor Fayose, to Oyo State. It is also sad that the APC chose to be uncouth and uncultured in its description of the governor-elect, but their situation is understood, they are ruing their party’s misfortune in the election.
“While we commiserate with them over the loss; we assert that the losing streak will continue in Osun and every South-west states, because the APC is anti-people and deceptive and our people have seen through their deceits”, Taiwo said.
The PDP further added that it needed no mercenary to defeat the APC, which it described as retrogressive and insensitive to the plight of the people.
“Oyo people have groaned under the burden of APC for four years; they have had enough and are waiting for our party to liberate them”, Taiwo said, adding that the claim that the PDP lacked a leader or candidate credible enough to chase away the APC was self-deluding and unreasonable.
“The people know our leaders to be lovers of the masses; they have seen the evil that Abiola Ajimobi has visited on the state too. But unlike the APC, we are known for internal democracy and will never impose any leader, so if they are in a hurry to know our candidate, the APC should join our party or wait with their hearts in their mouth. We will pick our candidate, who will send Ajimobi packing in 2015 and we are confident that with the APC already scared, the coast is clear for our party”, the PDP stated.
It would be recalled that the APC had through its state Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, in reaction to Fayose’s visit, where he boasted that he was on a mission to reclaim the South-west for the PDP, had castigated the governor-elect for becoming too loud-mouthed over his victory.
Oke added that the people of Oyo State were too sophisticated for the pedestrian politics being played by Fayose and warned the governor-elect to concentrate his energy on his Ekiti people as Oyo would be too hot for his kind of politics.
