Sunderland have agreed a fee in the region of £14m for Liverpool’s Fabion Borini.
The Italian striker featured for the ‘Black Cats’ on loan last season and scored 10 goals, which helped him pick the club’s young player of the year award.
Sunderland also reached the Capital One Cup final in the 2013/14 season and, despite Borini’s opener for Gustavo Poyet’s men at Wembley, they ended up losing to Manchester City.
The 23-year-old who joined Liverpool from Roma for £11m in the 2012/13 season managed just two goals that year before his loan move to the Stadium of Light.
He has since returned to Anfield and started in the club’s first pre-season friendly- a 2-1 loss to Danish hosts Brondby on Wednesday.
He is in line to become Sunderland’s fourth summer signing, after Jordi Gomez signed from Wigan, Billy Jones, from West Brom and Costel Pantilimon, from Manchester City.
