Bayelsa State police have arrested 4 people in connection with the kidnap of Senator Emmanuel Paulker’s mother, but the victim is still being held in captivity.
According to The Nation, some of the suspects confessed to the crime and were cooperating with the police to enable the 90-year-old woman’s rescue.
Police Commissioner Hilary Opara assured that the victim, who was abducted Wednesday from her home by gunmen, would soon regain freedom.
The State Security Adviser Lt.-Col. Benard Kenebai (retd) also confirmed the arrest and promised government’s full support to the security in this operation.
“One of the prime suspects was arrested within minutes of the distress call and three others were arrested less than six hours later. They have made useful statements to the police and efforts are on to ensure the prompt and successful release of the victim.”
It would be recalled that the Senator’s mother has been kidnapped for the second time within a 4-year period.
In the first case dating back to 2010 the elderly woman was whisked away by the armed youths who later demanded N100 million ransom. She was reportedly rescued by operatives in March, with one of the kidnappers killed during the gun battle.
