Congo Want Afcon Qualifier Against Nigeria Relocated

Congo have written to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) requesting for a change in venue for their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Nigeria.

The ‘Diables Rouges’ are scheduled to face the Super Eagles in an opening group stage qualifier on September 6 in Calabar.

Congo are concerned with the recent ebola virus outbreak in West Africa.

Caf has already ordered relocation of some of the 2015 Afcon qualifiers because of the spread of the virus, with the match between Guinea and Togo and Sierra Leone vs. Dr Congo slated for neutral venues.

“I think that would be difficult and risky to play in this area. As a matter of fact, neighbouring Camerron have closed their borders,” Congo coach Claude Leroy said on the possibility of traveling to Nigeria.

Congo grabbed a group stage qualifying series slot after Rwanda were suspended for fielding ineligible player.

The 2015 Afcon is slated for Morocco and will run from January 17 to February 8.
