Ebola Scare In Oyo State

The people of Oyo state have been gripped by fear and panic over a report that a suspected Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) patient was brought to Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, on Monday, August 19.

The government of Oyo state are trying to unravel the veracity of  the report, and in a bid to do so, the blood sample of the patient has been taken to University College Hospital (UCH) for laboratory test and the result is being awaited.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin said: “We saw a suspected patient. It will be presumptuous to jump into conclusion until the result of the test is out. But it is not likely to be positive. But let’s wait for the result of the blood test.”

He however urged the people not to panic as the government has put measures in place to check the disease.

 

With the current Ebola Virus Disease in the country, many have been living in fear and people with symptoms similar to that of Ebola virus have been quarantined.

The Ebola Virus has been described as the worst ever outbreak by the World Health Organization (WHO) and it data shows that the virus has killed 84 people in three days, bringing the current global death toll to 1,229.

In Nigeria, four people who were infected with the virus fully recovered and were discharged from the hospital. One other person had been discharged earlier bringing the total number of survivors to five.
