Edo Assembly Crisis: Igbinedion Holds Closed Door Meeting With Oshiomhole

Oshiomhole-visit-IgbinedionA chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in his office at the Government House, Benin City.

Igbinedion, who is the Esama of Benin Kingdom and father of a former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, arrived Government House at some minutes past 1pm and was immediately ushered into the governor’s office.

Chief Igbinedion, who was conspicuously absent at the PDP national chairman’s tour of the South-South zone in Calabar, Cross River State on Tuesday, spent about 35 minutes behind closed doors with Mr. Oshiomhole.

Emerging from the meeting later, the Esama told reporters that, “He (Adams Oshiomhle) is the governor of Edo State and I have come to see my governor”.

The patriarch of the Igbinedion dynasty thanked the governor for receiving him and his entourage to his office.

However, LEADERSHIP reports that the meeting might not be unconnected with the polarization of the state House of Assembly among party lines, which has seen All Progressives Congress and PDP lawmakers hold separate plenary sessions.

It was learnt that the nine PDP lawmakers, who are at the receiving end in the over two months old crisis, are tired of holding separate plenary as their resolutions are not binding on the state government.

On his part, the state governor congratulated the PDP chieftain on his forthcoming birthday saying, “Let me welcome you formally to my very modest office, thank you for taking time out to visit. I am in receipt of your birthday invitation; I promise you that I will be there live with our friends.

“It is something that we want to join in celebrating because longevity and good health are a rare combination. Some people have longevity, but poor health, others have good health but not long life, so when God gives you both, only He and He alone decides whom he chooses to so favour”, Oshiomhole enthused.
