Everton a close to signing veteran Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’O, who was released by Chelsea at the end of last season.
The Goodison park outfit are believed to have reached a provisional agreement with the 33-year-old on a two-year-deal.
Eto’O’s contract expired early July and was not offered a new one by the Stamford Bridge club. He scored 12 goals in 35 appearances after joining from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala last August.
Manager Roberto Martinez has moved to bolster the ‘Toffees’ attack, with the Mersey side club due to compete in Europe this season. They have already added Belgian centre-forward Romelu Lukaku on a permanent deal and Christian Atsu on loan, both from Chelsea this summer.
Liverpool and AC Milan are reportedly among a host of clubs to have shown interest in the 33-year-old free agent.
The four-time Caf Player of the Year recipient won the Uefa Champions League with Barcelona (3) and Inter Milan (1).
He also won the La Liga thrice at the Nou Camp, before he moved to Barcelona in 2009 as part of a deal which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic move in the opposite direction.
He scored 53 goals in 101 appearances at the San Siro before joining Anzhi in a bumper deal.
