Gunners make Arteta captain

Arsenal have confirmed Mikeal Arteta as their new captain

The Spaniard joined the Gunners in 2011 and despite playing as an attacking midfielder in his former club, manager Arsene Wenger converted him to a defensive midfielder.

Even though the club are strongly interested in a new defensive midfielder, Wenger’s decision to make the 32-year old his captain suggest the former Everton man is still in his plans.

World cup winner Per Merteshacker was named the vice captain.
