IG Appoints New Police Spokesman

The Inspector General Police, Suleiman Abba, NPM, mni, on Thursday appointed DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu as the new Force Public Relations Officer.

Ojukwu replaces the former spokesman, ACP Frank Mba, who has been redeployed to Lagos State Command as an Area Commander, Area J.

ACP Mba was appointed the Force Public Relations Officer from February 2012 to August, 2014.

Meanwhile, DCP Ojukwu, before his new appointment was a seasoned and thoroughbred officer, he was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigations Department at Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja.

The new spokesman is stepping into a familiar terrain, having distinguished himself as the Force PRO from December 2008 to October 2010. He holds B.Sc degree in Psychology (First Class Hons) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and M.Sc in Psychology from the University of Lagos. He is a member of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Chairman Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja, President of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association, Abuja.

ACP Mba speaking at the handing over ceremony urged the media and the public to extend maximum cooperation to the new spokesman.

Responding, Ojukwu promised to work to enhance the relationship between the Police and the public in line with the policy thrust of the Nigeria Police Force, and reiterated the slogan “The Police is your helper and friend.”

It would be recalled that the Police Service Commission recently promoted six Assistant Inspectors General of Police and two Commissioners of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police. Two commissioners of police were also promoted to the ranks of AIGs.

The AIGs promoted to DIGs were Dan’Azumi Job Doma, former force secretary, Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe, former AIG Zone 2 Lagos, David O. Omojola, former AIG Zone 11 Osogbo, Solomon E. Arase, former AIG Force Intelligence and AIG Christopher K. Katso, former moderator, Nigeria Institute of Police and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.

Others include AIG Zone 5 Benin City, Salihu Argungu Hashidu, while  CP Hilary Opara, former CP Bayelsa State and CP Sotonye L. Wakama, former CP Anti-terrorist Squad were elevated from the ranks of DIGs.
