Kompany Signs New Man City Deal

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has signed a new five-year deal expected to keep him at the club until at least 2019.

The 28-year-old joined the Premier League champions from German club Hamburg about six years ago for a fee believed to be in the region of £6 million.

“When I arrived in 2008, I could never have dreamed that we could achieve what we have over the last six years but, for me, this is just the start of the journey,” Kompany told the club’s website.

He signed a six-year contract- the longest in the club’s history- after captaining the Etihad Stadium outfit to a first Premier League title in 44 years in July 2012.

In May, Kompany scored his 11th league goal- City’s second in a 2-0 2013/14 season finale win over West Ham- as the club clinched its second league title in three years.

“Lifting two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup have been four of the best days of my life but I believe that there are many more of these occasions ahead,” the Belgium captain added.

He becomes the fourth player at the club to pen a new contract after Aleksandr Kolarov, Samir Nasri and David Silva all agreed a new deal.

City have boosted its squad with five key arrivals this summer, including French defender Eliaquim Mangala, whom they signed for £32m from Porto on Monday, ex-Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna and goalkeeper Willy Cabalero from Malaga.

The club have also added midfielders Fernando and Bruno Zuculini, while ex-Chelsea and England international midfielder Frank Lampard will spend six months at the club before moving to sixter club New York City FC.

Kompany said: “This team is stronger now than it’s ever been; we have competition for places in every position and a dressing room full of exceptional, motivated people who want to continue making history together.”
