Lampard to Spend Several Months on Loan at Man City

Frank Lampard is set for an immediate return to the English Premier League but this time, as a Manchester City Player.

The Premier League champions are reportedly set to sign the former Chelsea midfielder on loan from New York City FC.

Chelsea released the England international this summer after 13 years at the club, where he scored 211 goals in 649 matches in all competitions.

He completed his long-expected switch to the ‘Big Apple’ less than a fortnight ago.

But with the emerging Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise- partly owned by City- not due in action until March 2015- when the new American soccer league season begins- it was expected the Chelsea legend will be loaned back to Europe to keep within fitness range.

Words have not emerged from City, however, it is believed the Manchester club will register Lampard for both their league defence and Champions League seasons.

And Lampard could be at their Carrington training facility as early as next week for manager Manuel Pellegrini’s assessment. He is expected to remain at the club until some weeks to the close of the next winter transfer dispensation.

City and Chelsea, who finished third in the league last season with the former West Ham midfielder scoring 6 times in 26 appearances, will meet at the Etihad Stadium on September 21.

Having joined Chelsea from Boleyn Ground in June 2001 in an £11m deal, the London-born midfielder went on to win three league titles and four FA Cup winner’s medal, before leading the side to their first-ever Champions League and Europa League triumphs in quick succession in 2011-12 and 2012-13 respectively.

Lampard also won two League Cups at Stamford Bridge.

New York City sporting director and former City midfielder Claudio Reyna had said “we are exploring a few options” on the player’s destination before New York City FC’s first season begins.

The club are building a formidable squad for the next MLS season and have already signed ex-Spain striker David Villa from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Villa will spend three months on loan at Melbourne FC, Manchester City’s Australian partner club.

The ‘Three Lions’s’ highest scoring midfielder with 29 goals from 106 international caps says he will decide on his international career once his new professional challenge finalised.
