Liverpool have signed Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo in a two-year loan deal.
The 20-year-old Spanish youth international started his footballing career at Real Madrid’s Castilla academy before joining the La Liga champions in 2007.
“I’m very happy to have signed for a club like Liverpool,” Manquillo said after putting pen to paper at Anfield.
“When they tell you Liverpool want to sign you. You think like any player, you are going to be absolutely amazed and you don’t think of anything else than going straight there.”
The Madrid-born defender has represented his country at all youth levels.
He becomes coach Brendan Rodgers’ seventh signing of the summer, following the arrival of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallalna, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divork Origi.
