Melaye Urges Jonathan To Name FG-Owned Hospital After Late Heroine, Adadevoh

Stella Ameyo AdadevohA former member of the House of Representatives, Otunba Dino Melaye, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to name a Federal Government-owned hospital after the late Dr Ameyo Adadevoh in recognition of her gallant role in helping to prevent an Ebola Virus Disease epidemic in Nigeria.

Adadevoh, a senior consultant at the First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Lagos State, where the American-Liberian, Mr. Patrick Sawyer, was first diagnosed with Ebola, was said to have prevented him from running out of the hospital, which would have spread the virus disease.

Melaye who stated this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, saluted the bravery of the fallen heroine, which he noted had helped the government in containing the spread of the virus.

He said, “The courageous medical practitioner gave her life to save the lives of millions of Nigerians.

“If Patrick Sawyer had escaped out of that hospital, it could have been tactically impossible to tame the spread of this disease because he would have interacted with so many people and become very difficult to trace those who had contracted the disease.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on President Goodluck Jonathan to immortalise this woman by giving her a post-humous honour and if possible, name one of the national hospitals in this country after her, we need to immortalise her”.

The former lawmaker also commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives to the virus, and appealed to the federal government to compensate them.

He said, “We need to appreciate Nigerians who had sacrificed their lives for humanity, our government should not allow the labours of our heroes past to be in vain”.

He also commended the Lagos State Government for its efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

According to him, “We thank God that this happened in Lagos, if it had happened in other states, the spread of Ebola would have been difficult to contain, and our prayers is that God would completely heal our land of this satanic disease”.

Melaye equally called on members of the Nigerian Medical Association to imbibe the spirit of Adadevoh in all future situations where emergency was needed.
