The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday debunked an allegation by the National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed, that huge sums of money have been moved to effect the impeachment of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

The Majority Leader, Godiya Akwashiki, who responded to the allegation on behalf of the House, said that he read with shock, the APC spokesman’s allegations in a national daily and denied that members initiated the impeachment proceedings of July 14 after they were sponsored to do so from certain quarters.

“There is nobody pulling strings anywhere as alleged by Lai Mohammed, not the presidency, not the PDP. I am not aware of any kobo deployed by any quarters to induce members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly as alleged by the APC spokesman. The whole nation knows lies are Lai Mohammed’s trademark. Cheap propaganda and lying has become the APC’s major political instrument”, Akwashiki said.

“Rather, we are aware of President Goodluck Jonathan’s disposition over the impeachment saga, and which is to remain far from it. He has remained quiet, allowing the rule of law and due process to take their natural causes. The president’s body language is clear on this matter, to stay far from interference. For anybody to begin to say the president is interfering is most unfortunate. To say a large sum of money was deployed to induce lawmakers, is unpatriotic”, he added.
